I guess maybe that’s the echidna cuteness equation? The shorter the beak, the bigger the squee? But then again long-beaked echidnas are adorable too… so perhaps my calculations could use some tweaking.
An abandonedbabymonkey has turnedadversityinto education after becoming a cute and cuddly ambassador for wildlife. The six-week-old marmoset was abandoned when her mother could no longer produce enough milk and is now fed and cared for around the clock by a carer at Western Sydney’s Wild Animal Encounters. Yet to be named, the tiny marmoset will visit schools, shopping centres and corporate events to promote wildlife conservation. Picture: Newspix / Rex Features
Queen University’s Herpetologist Valerie Clark recently discovered that the skin of Madagascar poison frogs actually contain the sugar sucrose, which marks them as the firstknowncase of the chemical being produced by an animal, and not a plant!
It seems like it may be caused by their diet, as the frogs eat ants, who in turn, acquire the sugar from the sap of the plants in which they live!
However, as we mentioned – that’s not all they secrete!
As Clark’s colleagues documented, there’s also tauromantellic acid coming out of these amphibians, which is the “first example of a genuine poison frog metabolite from the skin of any tropical poison frog. It is interesting to speculate on the reason for the presence of this unusual bile acid in poison frog skin, and it is possible that this compound plays a key role in sequestering alkaloids and protecting the frogs from their own toxicity.”
ThisAfricangroundsquirrel had a fight on his paws when some hungry birds spotted him with a tasty snack. The feisty squirrel clamped down on the biscuit during the tug-of-war in Etosha National Park, Namibia. The struggle was caught on camera by photographer Ignacio Yufera. As we’re in the midst of Award season, it’s not only the celebs who are looking forward to getting sharply and beautifully dressed – but their pets, too!
Luckily, Dr. Patrick Mahaney has some pretty helpful suggestions on how to give your pooch an extra bit of class and glamor with some pet-friendly and very fashionable accessories!
Ch-ch-check he and Cardiff out (above) rocking some recycled/upcycled leather collars, with a bow tie front, from Papaya Pascal – which also donates 10% of the proceeds to spaying and neutering animals!
Excellent!
We ADORE fashion that also helps out such a necessary, wonderful cause!
