Rose McGowan has certainly made some lovely new animal friends!

The actress was recently photographed while she spent the day at The Gentle Barn in Santa Clarita, which is a rescue home for 130 farm animals that have been subjected to severe abuse, neglect, or slaughter, and once they're recovered, they help treat and heal children who also have suffered from abuse!

Ch-ch-check her out with the gorgeous cow Buttercup, who, after losing her own calf at seven months, now nurtures other baby cows rescued by the farm (above)!

Wow.

We're incredibly moved to hear that this place not only helps animals in desperate need of it, but promotes a kind of lovely 'pay it forward' attitude with them - so they can come to the aid of young people and help them heal in ways that might not ordinarily be available to them!

Thank you, Rose, for taking the time to be involved in such an organization and bringing attention to the wonderful things that they do!

I guess maybe that’s the echidna cuteness equation? The shorter the beak, the bigger the squee? But then again long-beaked echidnas are adorable too… so perhaps my calculations could use some tweaking.

An abandoned baby monkey has turned adversity into education after becoming a cute and cuddly ambassador for wildlife. The six-week-old marmoset was abandoned when her mother could no longer produce enough milk and is now fed and cared for around the clock by a carer at Western Sydney’s Wild Animal Encounters. Don't get any ideas, though, frog-lickers!

These guys are still POISONOUS!

Queen University's Herpetologist Valerie Clark recently discovered that the skin of Madagascar poison frogs actually contain the sugar sucrose, which marks them as the first known case of the chemical being produced by an animal, and not a plant!

It seems like it may be caused by their diet, as the frogs eat ants, who in turn, acquire the sugar from the sap of the plants in which they live!

However, as we mentioned - that's not all they secrete!

As Clark's colleagues documented, there's also tauromantellic acid coming out of these amphibians, which is the "first example of a genuine poison frog metabolite from the skin of any tropical poison frog. It is interesting to speculate on the reason for the presence of this unusual bile acid in poison frog skin, and it is possible that this compound plays a key role in sequestering alkaloids and protecting the frogs from their own toxicity."

Crazy! Talk about sweet AND sour!
